Matthew STEEN, son of Richard STEEN , was born abt. 1755 in "The Vow", County Antrim, Province of Ulster, Ireland. He married Jane TAYLOR 1774 in Philadelphia, PA. He died April 23, 1835 in Canonsburg, Washington County, PA. Jane TAYLOR was born 1756 in Ireland. She died January 04, 1842 in Canonsburg, Washington County, PA.

THE STEEN FAMILY in Europe and America, Volume II, Page 361: Matthew Ste
en was a descendant of a Scotch Covenanter minister, a refugee from religi
ous persecution, who came into Ireland with Oliver Cromwell and others abo
ut 1649, and located first in Killinsky, County Down, and afterward settl
ed in County Antrim, [Providence of Ulster], Ireland. He was born about 17
55, probably about eight Irish miles from Coleraine, near the bank of t
he River Bann, in County Antrim, Province of Ulster, Ireland, that for
ms a part of the tract called "The Vow".

Matthew came to America in his early years, and located first in Philadelp
hia, Pennsylvania where he lived several years. He was married there abo
ut 1774, to Jane Taylor, and was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. In 17
80, Matthew Steen moved with his family to Canonsburg, Washington Count
y, Pennsylvania, where he spent the remainder of his life, and died at a
ge 80.

According to WFT, in 1784, a Matthew Steen owned land in South Strabane To
wnship, Washington County, Pennsylvania, that adjoined lands of Dorsey Pen
tecost, Samuel Workman, and Josiah Scott.
